Accelerating the Engagement of CALD Workforce into Victorian Agricultural Communities Project
Awareness and engagement of the “Accelerating the Engagement of CaLD Workforce into Victorian Agricultural Communities Project” is constantly increasing. Coordinator, Bonnie Reeves has been engaging with producers, growers and workers within the Macalister Irrigation District (MID) to capture local data on industry operations in relation to farm management, employment, current industry barriers, and identifying systems and areas that can be improved to support both farm managers, CALD employees, and communities seeking employment within local agriculture.
On May 30th, the Steering Committee met to sign off on governance documentation such as a stakeholder engagement plan and project logic mapping which was implemented to establish a clear direction and approach to the project. This meeting held an informative discussion about project progression as the group assisted and guided the Coordinator to connect with further key contacts, to gather data and engage within the agricultural sector.
The Steering Committee members welcomed guest speaker Michael Gliddon from Aurora Dairies. Michael spoke on the multiple farms operating within the MID, the business approach Aurora takes to implement farm safety, as well as the manner in which the company employs and upskills CALD workers within the local dairy industry.
The Steering Committee will meet again in July. Moving forward Community CaLD Engagement Coordinator, Bonnie Reeves will be increasing data collection as well as undertaking interviews and conversations with local growers, producers, workers and CaLD community within the MID and Leongatha.
